I know that the end of summer isn't technically until September 23, but I'm declaring it officially over for me! I am ready to move on to fall, my favorite time of the year!
We had some excitement over the summer with someone trying to break into our house. They didn't try too hard because they never succeeded in getting in, but it kept things interesting for awhile. We became very friendly with the Derry police. After the 1st break in attempt, Colin had the idea to put down powder at the door where the person kept trying to break in. The police told him what a great idea that was and were very impressed when they got a shoe print the 2nd break in attempt. Colin was too embarrassed to tell them he got the idea from an episode of Ghost Hunters! lol Some neighbors in the field behind us were broken into because they left their garage door open. The footprints there matched the ones from our house, but as far as I know they haven't caught the person. We have now added security cameras and extra locks on all our doors. They tried a total of 4 times to get in with no luck. The person always came when we were gone, so I wasn't worried about our safety, but I did worry about the dogs getting hurt or taken. I do realize that if someone took them they would probably understand what a mistake that was after an hour or so and bring them back, but they are my babies so I still worried.
In July we went to see the Seattle Mariners play the Red Sox at Fenway. Colin was all decked out in his Mariners gear. I was a little worried he would get beat up, but the Mariners were on a 13 game losing streak so Red Sox Nation wasn't too threatened by him. Sadly, but not surprisingly, the Mariners lost the game...in fact, I think they lost every game of that series.
Last week I had to have a d&c for my 2nd miscarriage in 9 months. I always naively thought if I were just able to get pregnant, the rest would be smooth sailing. That has not turned out to be the case. I know everyone has trials in life, and I don't know why we have this one, but we have been blessed with a supportive family and friends and we feel very fortunate to have each other. There is a song that Blake Shelton has out now called God Gave Me You and I told Colin that it's our song. Have a listen.
On a brighter note, hockey season is only about a month away! We pick up our season tickets at the end of September and the first game is October 7th. Go Monarchs!
